THE LONG STORY....
I've been writing short stories and poetry since the fifth grade; a teacher by the name of Mrs. Carpenter shared one of my pieces with various other teachers, and I realized, as corny as it might sound, that I could entertain people with the written word. Throughout middle school I learned through poetry I could express my thoughts, views, and opinions in poetry while entertaining and touching others. High school brought new opportunities for sharing my work; I was honored in the 10th grade to win the first Young GA Authors District Level award for my school. I've yet to stop placing the pen to paper; however, I have drifted away from the short stories to only poetry these days.
I'm a student at Georgia State University. My major is English with a concentration in creative writing, and one day I plan to teach creative writing and poetry courses.
I've had work published in Subtle Tea, Meeting of the Minds, The Black Widow & The Brown Recluse, Beginnings, and Poetic License. I've won honorable mentions in contests sponsored by the Alabama Society and Oregon State Poetry Society. I have been talented featured at the Arts in Park at historic Oakland Cemetery (2005), Barnes & Noble at GA Tech (2005), Humpus Bumpus Books (2006), a hurricane Katrina benefit at Outwrite Books (2006), and at a queer reading at the Atlanta Fulton County Library (2006).
